Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s 2022 Physics Spring Banquet was held recently at the Stafford Air & Space Museum in Weatherford, and several SWOSU students were presented awards.
Students honored included, among others, Tanner Smith of Erick receiving the $2,000 J.R. Pratt Scholarship.
Physics alumni, students and their families joined faculty and administrators to celebrate students’ achievements and to reconnect with each other after a two-year hiatus because of the pandemic.
After tours of the museum and dinner, the honors and awards were handed out, including an induction ceremony for new members of SWOSU’s chapter of Sigma Pi Sigma, the national physics honor society.
This was followed by the handing out of Sigma Pi Sigma graduation regalia to graduating seniors who are members.
Academic achievements, contributions to the physics program and scholarships for the 2022-23 academic year were recognized.
At the end of the banquet, physics students gave updates on a few of the projects going taking place in the department, including a report from the Rocket Dawgs and their winning effort at the 2022 Argonia Cup rocket competition, some insights on deploying drones from rockets, and the latest news of efforts to build printed circuit-board badges.
