Speeding Leads to Fentanyl Discovery

A probable cause search of a vehicle pulled over for speeding in Beckham County led to the discovery of, among other things, fentanyl pills.

The discovery led to the arrest of three California residents.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Beckham County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy pulled over the speeding vehicle that was going over 100mph eastbound on Interstate 40 on July 14.

The deputy noted that after making contact with the driver, he allegedly smelled marijuana inside the car, and later on the driver.

After conducting a search of the vehicle, the deputy reportedly found what later field tested positive to be a little over 10 ounces of marijuana along with 10 tablets of fentanyl.

The driver, 25-year-old Rodney Lavon Shorter of Long Beach, California, and two passengers, 23-year-old Tyler Renae Shorter (also of Long Beach), and 25-year-old Kayla Monique Bisserup were all arrested and each received trafficking and possession charges in Beckham County District Court.
