ODOC Press Release
Agents from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections’ Office of the Inspector General (OIG), with the assistance of law enforcement agents across multiple jurisdictions, took part in a warrant roundup on June 28-30. The operation resulted in 12 arrests for offenses ranging from parole violations to escape from custody.
Authorities said some of the warrants were served on suspects with violent histories, those engaged in drug trafficking, and some involved in gang activity. All are now off the streets.
OIG agents utilized intelligence gained from local law enforcement agencies, anonymous tips, and their own investigations to locate fugitives during the three-day sweep. Most captures were relatively uneventful, according to ODOC Fugitive Apprehension Unit Agent Martin Reed.
“It started off good, and we will keep going from there,” Reed said.
One fugitive had been on the run for a year. Investigators say he was simply tired of running and wanted help with his crippling meth addiction.
“He turned himself in, went peacefully and surrendered,” ODOC Fugitive Apprehension Unit Agent Ray Gooldy said. “Some people don’t want to do that.”
The final arrest of the sweep did not go peacefully. When agents attempted to serve a warrant at a home in Hydro, an armed felon allegedly fired a gun and barricaded himself inside the residence. In collaboration with the Caddo County Sheriff’s Department and Anadarko Police, law enforcers successfully ended the four-hour standoff by deploying a flash bang into the home.
OIG officials say this was one of the most success fugitive round ups in recent memory with a dozen men and women captured in Oklahoma and Texas.
“Another day. Another dollar. Another bad guy in jail,” said Agent Gooldy.
