HIGH SCHOOL HOOPS RESULTS

It was a busy night around Western Oklahoma on the high school hoops gridiron last night. Elk City opened the season at home against Woodward. The Elkette offense started slow in the first half then picked it up in the second half. Woodward led by 9 twice in the 3rd quarter before the Brown and White climbed back to within 3 headed to the fourth. It went back and forth in the final quarter before Kylie Coffey put the Elkettes up for good… That 3 pointer made it 40-38 with two minutes left. Coffey hit a pair of free throws with under a minute left to seal a 44-38 Elk City win. Abby Brown paced Elk City with 20 before fouling out. Campbell Garbarino and Ella Sottile chipped in with 8 apiece. The Big Elks had trouble with the up and coming Woodward Boomers. Woodward started fast and never looked back in a 64-21 demolition of the Elks. Woodward Freshman Kadon Gaines poured in 26 in his first varsity game. Cole Buie had 5 for the Elks. Elk City gets back on the floor next Tuesday in Clinton. 

It was a busy night on paragontv as well. On the girls side of things, AB topped B-O 52-36, Canute blew out HObart 50-35, Hammon came back to beat C-R 42-37, Kingfisher got the better of Merritt 56-41, and Sentinel blistered Erick 53-22. In those boys games, B-O pulled away from AB 51-41, Canute throttled Hobart 78-59, Hammon beat C-R 51-41, Kingfisher handled Merritt 46-34, Sentinel edged Erick 53-46.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF RANKINGS

The next to last college football playoff rankings were released last night ahead of Conference Championship weekend. Oregon’s number 1, Texas 2, Penn St 3, Notre Dame 4, Georgia 5, Ohio St 6, Tenn 7, SMU’s 8th, Indiana 9, and Boise rounds out the top 10. Alabama came in 11th, Miami 12, Ole Miss 13, So Carolina 14, and AZ St is 15th. With the way the committee ranked the teams last night, Alabama would be the final at large spot ahead of Miami, Ole MIss, and So Carolina.

THUNDER WIN  IN SEASON GROUP; PLAY DALLAS IN THE KNOCK OUT ROUND

The Ok City Thunder got back to their winning ways last night in their 4th and final play in game for the in season tournament against Utah. OKC started a little slow but then blew away the Jazz 133-106. Jalen Williams led Ok City with 28. SGA added 26. Isaiah Joe and Andrew Wiggins combined for 35 off the bench. Coupled with OKC’s win and San Antonios loss, the Thunder win the Group and advance to the knockout round at home next Tuesday against Dallas.

OKLAHOMA STATE MOVING ON FROM COORDINATORS

This afternoon Mike Gundy announced the firing of both coordinators. Ok State is moving on from OC Kasey Dunn and DC Bryan Nardo. Dunn has coordinated the Cowboy’s offense since 2020. Nardo just finished up his second season as the Pokes defensive coordinator
