Lawton, Okla. – The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) has announced the 2024 Certified Healthy Oklahoma awardees, recognizing outstanding efforts in promoting health and wellness throughout the state. Among the honorees, schools and organizations from Beckham, Greer, and Kiowa counties stood out for their exemplary health initiatives.
In Beckham County, several institutions received high honors. Merritt Elementary School earned the Excellence certification, while Elk City High School and Merritt Public School both secured Merit recognition. Elk City Public School was acknowledged as well. In early childhood programs, Elk City Head Start achieved Excellence certification, and Pitter Patter’s Daycare facilities were recognized with Basic certifications. The Beckham County Health Department locations in both Elk City and Sayre also received Excellence recognition in the business category.
Greer County saw notable achievements as Mangum Head Start earned an Excellence certification in the early childhood program category. Additionally, Greer County Health Department received Excellence recognition, while Tiger Cub Learning Center received Merit in the business category.
Kiowa County’s Mountain View-Gotebo Public School was honored with Merit certification for its commitment to promoting student health. Great Plains Youth & Family Services, Inc. received Merit in the business category, while Great Plains Early Learning Center was recognized with a Basic certification in early childhood programs. Kiowa County Health Department achieved Excellence recognition as well.
“Organizations and individuals earning a Certified Healthy Oklahoma certification should take pride in their accomplishment and be celebrated for their leadership in promoting health,” said Commissioner of Health Keith Reed. “These champions of health are paving the way for an elevated quality of life for all Oklahomans.”
Certified Healthy Oklahoma is a collaborative initiative by OSDH, The Oklahoma Academy, Oklahoma Turning Point Council, and the State Chamber of Oklahoma, designed to highlight organizations supporting healthy lifestyles through physical activity, nutrition, tobacco cessation, and mental health support.
Applications for the 2025 Certified Healthy Oklahoma program will open on August 1, 2025, and close on November 1, 2025. Interested applicants can apply online.
