A flood watch is now in effect for several counties in western Oklahoma, including Beckham, Custer, Dewey, Ellis, Greer, Harmon, Jackson, Kiowa, Roger Mills, and Washita, extending through Friday evening. Heavy rainfall is forecasted over the next two days, with the National Weather Service warning of possible flooding due to excessive rain.
The latest weather pattern begins with light rain across Oklahoma this afternoon, with moderate rainfall expected in southwestern areas. Heavier rain is forecast to move in around midnight, intensifying through the overnight hours.
According to meteorologists, the storm will bring waves of moderate to heavy rain, and while thunder is expected, there is no severe weather threat from these storms. However, the heavy downpours, especially during the morning hours on Friday, raise the risk of localized flooding. Rainfall totals are expected to range between 2 and 3 inches tonight, with an additional 1 to 2 inches on Friday.
Forecast Details:
Tonight: Showers with possible thunderstorms, some producing heavy rainfall. Temperatures will dip to around 47°F with northeast winds gusting up to 28 mph. Rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches are possible.
Friday: Heavy rain and thunderstorms continue, with a high of 60°F. Winds will shift from the northeast to the southeast by afternoon, gusting up to 30 mph. An additional 1 to 2 inches of rain is expected.
Friday Night: Showers taper off, leaving mostly cloudy skies that will gradually clear. Lows around 39°F with south-southeast winds shifting to the west-southwest.
Saturday: Conditions will clear, and sunshine is expected with a high of 61°F, providing a rain-free weekend.
Residents in the affected counties should monitor the forecast and take necessary precautions against potential flooding. The flood watch will remain in effect from 6 p.m. Thursday until 9 p.m. Friday.
