Elk City, OK – An Elk City man is facing legal trouble after allegedly attempting to purchase a firearm while having an active warrant for his arrest.
According to an affidavit filed on January 28, 27-year-old Isaac James Goodman was denied a firearm purchase at an Elk City pawn shop on December 28, 2024. The denial came after a background check flagged him as a fugitive from justice due to an outstanding misdemeanor assault warrant from Nebraska.
Authorities reviewed federal firearm purchase documents and discovered that Goodman had falsely stated on his application that he was not a fugitive from justice. This led to charges under Oklahoma Statute 21 O.S. § 1289.28, which prohibits providing false information to firearm dealers.
When contacted by law enforcement, Goodman allegedly admitted that he had a warrant in Nebraska but claimed he did not have the money to resolve it. He also stated that he had been involved in a physical altercation with a “local crackhead,” which led to his legal troubles.
The affidavit further states that and Elk City police officer contacted Platte County Sheriff’s Office in Nebraska, confirming the warrant was active for in-state pickup only.
Goodman now faces charges related to unlawful actions regarding firearm purchases. If convicted, he could face a fine of up to $5,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest, and his bond is set at $3,500. A court date is pending.
