Elk City’s Centennial Carousel Stopped Turning

August 16, 2023

By Landry Brewer

A popular Ackley Park attraction is closed till further notice.

Due to mechanical problems, the Centennial Carousel is out of commission until a repairman can fix it.

There’s only a handful of people nationally who work on carousels, and we’re at the mercy of one man’s availability,” said City Manager Tom Ivester.

Elk City’s carousel repairman lives in Ohio.

The City has contacted the gentleman multiple times asking about his availability to fix the carousel.

We were told initially that it would be a matter of weeks before he could travel here to work on the carousel, but he’s since told us that it could be longer,” Ivester said.

The City is considering other repair options and hopes to have the carousel running and available for riders during Christmas in the Park activities.
