Tuesday’s high winds were to blame for a damaged power line pole in Elk City.

Elk City Fire Chief Kyle Chervenka said Randall Street between 9th and 10th had to be temporarily closed while crews repaired the pole.

Chief Chervenka said his crews also assisted the Carter Fire Department in combating a grass fire that was started by sparking power lines Tuesday afternoon.

Chervenka said there were no structures or injuries reported with that fire. He also added that crews called to a second fire in the county, however once they arrived it had apparently extinguished itself.

According to the Oklahoma Mesonet, wind gusts in Beckham County were measured at 61 mph. In Texas County in the Oklahoma Panhandle, a wind gust of 78 mph was recorded.
